Excerpt from Report of the Cochituate Water Board: For the Year Ending April 30, 1875 In compliance with the provisions of the City Ordinance the Cochituate Water Board respectfully submits its annual report for the year ending April 30th, 1875, together with the report of the Clerk of the Board, the City Engineer, the Water Registrar, and the Superintendents of the Eastern and Western Divisions. To these reports the Board would refer the City Council for all detailed statements relating to the condition and progress of the works during the year. The Board has the pleasure of reporting the works in excellent condition, with the exception of the conduit, which, however, is apparently in no worse condition than last year. The water has been drawn off twice during the year, and such examinations and repairs made as the limited time would allow. The question of a further supply of water from the Sudbury river, which has been advocated by this Board during the past four years, has at last been settled by the action of the City Council at the very close of the municipal year. Owing to this delay the whole of last season and the early part of the present one has been lost, and nothing has been clone towards obtaining an additional supply of water, with the exception of the construction of the rock tunnel through the Chestnut-Hill ridge.
